ABOUT DR DYLAN GRIGG ○
Dylan Grigg is a practical hands-on viticulturist, advisor and vineyard owner with a PhD in viticulture and 28 years in practical viticulture. When not travelling, consulting, speaking or riding mountain bikes he can be found in his own vineyard getting his hands dirty doing whatever needs to be done.
Dylan began his career in viticulture in the Barossa Valley pruning old vines and driving tractors in the 90’s. Early on he worked in contrasting Barossa and Adelaide Hills regions. He took a leap from vineyard management to mature age entry to study viticulture and work at the University of Adelaide to anchor practical experience with theory and research.
Following graduation Dylan worked in vineyards and lived in NZ for a stint before settling in Victoria as viticulturist for Mac Forbes in the Yarra Valley and surrounds. At this time, he founded meristem viticulture (2008) as service to help growers and winemakers get the most from their vines with practical experience and scientific knowledge.
Returning to Adelaide 8 years later Dylan continued to consult while completing a PhD, the research investigated vine age and grape and wine quality. During this time he began working in Spain where he later moved and lived with his young family working and travelling extensively within Europe.
Returning home to Australia he now works with an exclusive group of high-quality winemakers and growers across a range of viticultural regions, climates and varieties in places such as WA, VIC, TAS, SA and consulting in USA and Europe.
When not in someone else’s vineyard he is in his own growing grapes for his passion project, Vinya Vella Old vine Grenache.
