A Big Dream, and A Lot of Hardwork at Bridgetown Winery

A massive congratulations to WA Rootling Tayla Semmens and her partner Brayden Couper on the official opening of their new cellar door at Bridgetown Winery in the Blackwood Valley Wine District!

Trading the Perth rat race for a picturesque vineyard perched along the winding Brockman Highway, Tayla and Brayden took a bold leap of faith five years ago with no prior viticulture or winemaking experience. Drawing on Tayla’s horticulture background and the generosity of local growers and friends, the duo threw themselves into learning every facet of the craft from the ground up.

Today, that hard work and community spirit are pouring straight into the glass. Embracing a minimalist, hands-on philosophy—where every batch is hand-picked, processed, and bottled with the help of the local community—Bridgetown Winery is now serving up a newly minted range of estate-grown and Blackwood Valley-sourced wines, including a contemporary Chardonnay, a lively Barbera, and a Tempranillo.

What to Expect at the Cellar Door:

  • The Setting: Sweeping views overlooking a pristine dam, pastures grazed by Dorper sheep, and the bush-flanked Blackwood River below.

  • The Offering: Guided tasting flights paired with local Cambray Cheese boards, regional beverages, and weekend woodfired pizzas.

  • The Vision: True to the collaborative Rootlings spirit, Tayla and Brayden have plans to turn Bridgetown Winery into a communal "hub cellar door" for the Blackwood Valley—eventually showcasing wines from up to six different regional producers alongside their own.

If you find yourself heading south for a road trip through the Blackwood Valley, be sure to drop into Bridgetown Winery, grab a slice of woodfired pizza, and raise a glass to Tayla and Brayden on this incredible milestone!
