Australian Alternate Varieties Wine Show Stewarding Call Out!
Do you want to get into the wine show judging circuit? Stewarding at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show from November 4 to 8 is one of the best and most supportive ways to break into the industry.
Stewarding at the AAVWS gives Rootlings access to ‘behind the scenes’ of how a wine show works. It also gives the opportunity to be involved in Chief of Judges Leanne Altmann’s Stewards Masterclass. The AAVWS encourage stewards to taste wines behind the scenes, and they also choose the ‘Stewards Choice’ Award, so they play a vital role.
Wednesday evening, the AAVWS celebrates their stewards and the vital role they play in keeping the show running with a stewards and judges dinner. This is a great opportunity to relax, enjoy some excellent wines, and network! Thursday Feature Dinner- This year's Feature Dinner focuses on SALT. With Stefano Di Pieri in the kitchen, this event will showcase a selection of alternative variety wines known for their saline character, coastal influence, or indeed inland wines produced via a salt-based inception scheme. Wines will be paired with a menu featuring local, seasonal produce.
Friday afternoon- Talk and Taste. An engaging event that brings together wine professionals, judges, producers, and enthusiasts. The afternoon will feature the latest research with real-world applications, insightful wine tastings, industry commentary and opportunities for meaningful conversation with key figures shaping the future of Australian wine. Saturday AM- Show Tasting- another opportunity to taste and see the results from the week that was
Saturday PM- The famous Awards Long Lunch- the culmination of a big week of Judging! 5 courses with matched Trophy and gold medal winning wines from 2024 and the presentation of the 2025 Awards
