Calling all SA Rootlings: Help Us Inspire the Next Generation!
Are you passionate about your career in the wine sector? Do you want to help high school students discover the incredible opportunities our industry offers?
Through Wine Australia’s work within school education and career pathways, there is an opportunity on Tuesday, 2 June, for some SA-based Rootlings to support Sue Pratt, the lead SA Agriculture teacher, in a fantastic career discovery day at Golden Grove High School (shared with students from Pedare Christian College and Gleeson College).
Interestingly, these schools don’t currently offer agriculture as a subject. However, they recognize the massive potential for careers in food, fibre, and wine, and want to open their students' eyes to what's possible!
To attract students who might not typically consider a pathway in agriculture or wine, we are pitching the sessions through the lens of the subjects they already enjoy, like Chemistry and Business.
Here is where you come in:
After a morning of general career sessions, we are running a series of engaging, interactive, 25-minute breakout sessions in the afternoon. We are looking for 1 or 2 SA Rootlings to lead a wine-focused session.
The Details:
Date: Tuesday, 2 June
Time: Breakout sessions run between 1:40 pm and 2:40 pm
Format: You will run your 25-minute interactive session a few times for groups capped at 30 students. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are available.
The Brief: We need an engaging, hands-on activity. Ideally, this would connect to Chemistry (e.g., a non-alcoholic sensory analysis or aroma kit activity) or Business (e.g., a marketing, branding, or wine label design challenge).
This is a brilliant opportunity to step out of your day-to-day, represent the Rootlings network, and show students that the wine industry is about so much more than just working on a farm—it's science, business, creativity, and innovation.
Want to get involved? If you have a fun idea and are free on the afternoon of June 2 to help run this session, please reply via email below!
